Penang’s Beach Paradise!

Just when we thought we knew it all about Penang Island, we discovered paradise. Mercure Hotel is the place to stay if your looking for never-ending ocean views and peace by the sea.

The suites are spectacular! The amount of space was more than most studio apartments we’ve ever encountered. Equipped with a small kitchen (with a large fridge, microwave, tableware, a sink and plenty of cabinet space), a dining table, TWO sitting areas overlooking the ocean, an extra single bed for our oldest, a separate master bedroom with a king-sized bed, a workspace, a huge closet and a cozy bathroom; it was the perfect-sized accommodation for our family of four. We even had two televisions but who needs them, seriously, did I not mention the view?!

Walking into the lobby for check-in hits you with a blue reality. A good blue that is! You walk straight towards what just seems like sky and sea. It’s like staring at a tropical blue wallpaper. It’s your cue to relax and enjoy. We were immediately greeted by the kindest of staffs and delicious tropical drinks which our five-year old had all the cherries to and then some.

After a blissful tour of the room we headed out to explore our surroundings, and we were not disappointed. Directly after the lobby’s view and plenty of lounging areas by the sea, is a staircase to warm sand and bean bags right on the beach! The secluded strip is simply beautiful. The beach was kept clean every morning! Nice plump bean bags, large enough for all of us to lounge on. The perfect spot to watch the kids discover sea shells and splash by the edge as we enjoyed ourselves under the shade of the palm trees.

As if that doesn’t sound good enough, our mornings were highlighted by the breakfast buffet including everything we ever wanted! Fresh fruit our youngest devoured, coffee, breads, danishes, muffins (so many baked goods!), as well as a salad bar, a noodle station and more traditional Malay breakfast dishes. They had an assortment of cereals, delicious yogurt our oldest absolutely loved, and an amazing egg station with the best omelettes, we couldn’t get enough of! Better yet, the breakfast scene was, you guessed it, overlooking the beautiful ocean view, as well as the pool!

After an amazing breakfast and a dreamy morning walk on the beach, jumping in the crisp pool was naturally the next thing in mind for our littles and we weren’t far behind either.

So now picture this, lounging in between the pool and sea, watching the kids splash away in the kiddie pool, swimming laps across the larger pool, sipping away your morning coffee to the rhythm of the waves, doesn’t that sound like paradise to you?
